Last couple of months we have been reading forum topics and blog posts about the problems/issues with pharmacy domains. Several domains of our affiliates were also suspended by domain registrars. It’s not hard to imagine how does it feel for an affiliate when a domain that is making you money gets suspended. To avoid this, please follow the following rules:

• Avoid registrars who block domains for any reason or no reason (it’s easy to find the list of such registrars on any webmaster forum);
• Never use “drug” or “pharma” keywords if you are not sure how reliable it is. The use of trademarks of well-known brands like Viagra, Cialis or Levitra is the first reason to suspend your domain, as these names are the subject of Trademark disputes;
• Feel free to use “health”, “care”, “med”, “pill”, “tab” and similar keywords.

So you own an online pharmacy, and you wish to earn money with it, but you do not have any targeted traffic. One of the most profitable and perspective ways is promoting a drugstore in search engines by SEO.

First of all you need to think of a domain for your online pharmacy since a catchy domain name will allow your customers to easily remember your website address and reorder from you over and over again, and to recommend your drugstore to others. The name should be relevant to the website content (for example: antibiotics, ED products, etc.), should be as short as possible, however, it is advisable that the name contains at least one keyword; in future this will affect the position of your website in SERP.

When your online pharmacy is unique, then there’s just one last step left on your way to targeted traffic – you need the search engines to know about the new website, to index your website and give it a push for growth in SERP. You need to set up some incoming links from other sites.

Backlink ranking is one of the major elements of SEO, affecting on the position in SERP. Use any SEO trusted websites where it is possible to place a link to your online pharmacy some of them such as forums, blogs, boards, etc. I recommend to use websites that have at least min PageRank (1+), and at the same time are not a linkfarm. Do not buy links at the websites publicly selling them, in 80% of the case the search engines will find out about this and get your website banned from their listings. Use different text links from different websites. When using the same link anchor you may get banned. Place links not only to the homepage of your online pharmacy, but also to product pages, category pages, etc. Do not use autosubmit - your store will be removed from SERP because of SPAM.

If you have entered a wrong domain name when signing up, you can update it now by clicking on its name in the list. This will be the domain where your pharmacy store will be installed.

Catalog: choose a type of product catalog. At the moment only General Products is available, so that’s what you should choose.

Store: enter your domain where the online pharmacy will be installed. (as: yourdrugstore.com . Do not use http://www.).

Notify email: enter an email address where you want your order notification emails to come to.

Tracker html: this is optional. If you wish to add a Google analytics code, for example — the code will respond when the customer will go on the checkout page. Also, you can enter PPC code here.

Press Submit.

Your store has now been added/updated, now you can download the store installation file. To do this go to Stores, click Search. In the Downloads column in the table next to your store you will see an Installer link. Click on the link and download the archive install.tar.gz.

Unpack the downloaded archive, upload install.php in BINARY mode via ftp to the root directory of your domain.

In your browser go to http://yourdrugstore.com/install.php. If your host supports all that is needed for the online pharmacy store to work, script should produce something like this:

If everything is ok and looks the same as in the example shown - ckick Start. You will see: Please wait while installation files are being downloaded…

Then:

Click Next.

You will see a table with the default settings of your online pharmacy store:

Skin: choose a design for your online pharmacy.

Products per page: number of products per page.

Host of your domain: this should be entered automatically.

Title: enter the title of the page.

Meta keywords: enter keywords seperated by commas. ###PRODUCT_TITLE### - macros for formation of meta tags and title.

Meta description: description of a page, you may use macros.

Login: enter a login you want to use for loging into the admin area of your online pharmacy

Password: enter a password you want to use for login into the admin area of your online pharmacy.

Continue by clicking Next.

That’s it! Your own online pharmacy store is now installed. Now you can either visit the admin area of your store, or browse your newly created online pharmacy.
