John Horton

The LegitScript founder is John Horton, a quiet American, Japanese interpreter with additional education in law. Mr. Horton worked in the Bush White House as Deputy Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy in the period March 2002 – May 2007. As Horton’s LinkedIn page (accessed 3/3/2010) states:
“I served as the primary staff person responsible for advising the “Drug Czar” and coordinating federal policy on several issues, including prescription drug-related issues (including Internet pharmacy policy) and several chemical control issues. I authored the Administration’s National Synthetic Drug Control Strategy and co-authored the President’s National Drug Control Strategy in the years from 2002 until 2007.”

While Horton was a government employee Mr. Horton registered a for-profit company LegitScript LLC in Virginia with a not-for-profit entity in his home state of Oregon. Last months of his work in the government he uses for struggle against private importation of meds. In fact he violated The US Office of Government Ethics’ Misuse of Position policy. In April 2009 Jonh dissolved LegitScript as a non-profit organization in Oregon and then registered LegitScript as a for-profit LLC in August with the Evergreen Government Relations LLC (both companies have the same address). And all hell broke loose.

One should first create a ballyhoo in order to establish a reputation of a good lobbyist. In August major supposedly crushing report was published. It was supposed to reveal the stinky essence of the “Russian organized crime and terrorist sponsoring organizations”. Statements and actions of LegitScript prove their complete misunderstanding of the market, business peculiarities and senseless compliance with orders of big Pharma. LegitScript automatically blacklists every not US online pharmaceutical store, which is total nonsense. LegitScript give transparent idea about their income source – “market research reports” regarding the Internet pharmacy and online pharmaceutical markets. We wonder who is interested in that sort of research?

Willing to satisfy the big Pharma they started tarring everyone with the Tory brush: online business, spammers, terrorists, in order to reach their only aim – threaten customers. In the rush to win at least some prestige LegitScript sends numerous abuses to Spamhaus, domain registrars, tries to discredit PharmacyChecker. No wonder the VIPPS takes LegitScript opinion into account, don’t forget about Horton’s relations in the White House. However, they have never managed to gain traffic .
